Construction Update on Almond Grove Phase I – Broadway and Bachman Avenue

Update posted 12/7/16 –
Bachman Avenue
Today construction crews placed the last section of concrete roadway on Bachman Avenue between Tait Avenue and Glen Ridge Avenue.  Thank you for your patience while this work was being completed.

Crews will be working into the evening hours to finish the concrete and protect it from the upcoming rains.  Once again, the sawcutting operation is anticipated to take place late this evening and into the very early morning hours on Thursday.  Due to the colder temperatures and anticipated rain, it is likely that the concrete will take longer to cure and sawcutting may continue into the daytime tomorrow.  We apologize for any inconvenience and disruption caused by the noise and lights required for this operation, but please remember this is a critical element of the concrete roadway, the timing of which is dependent on many variables beyond our control.

The following intersections are to remain CLOSED over the weekend, please obey all road closure and detour signs:

  • Massol Avenue @ Bachman Avenue
  • Glen Ridge @ Bachman Avenue
  • Alleyway between Tait and Massol @ Bachman Avenue
  • Tait Avenue @ Bachman Avenue (limited to southbound travel only – northbound detoured to Wilder Avenue)
The newly placed roadway sections and intersections will remain closed throughout the weekend.  Although it may be extremely tempting to walk or drive on the new roadway pavement, please stay off of the new pavement until the project team has determined the pavement is able to accommodate traffic and has removed the barricades and caution tape. For pedestrian access, please use the sidewalks to navigate around the construction area.

Update posted 12/6/16 –
Bachman Avenue
Construction crews are prepared to place the last section of roadway on Bachman Avenue between Tait Avenue and Glen Ridge Avenue tomorrow, Wednesday, December 7th.  In an effort to place the concrete before the rains predicted for tomorrow evening, construction crews will begin working at 7a.m.  To expedite the construction, Bachman Avenue between Tait and Belmont Avenues will be closed to through traffic for most of the day on Wednesday, December 7th, including the intersections of Massol/Bachman and Glen Ridge/Bachman.   Local access to properties on the north side of Bachman Avenue between Tait and Glen Ridge will be maintained, however there may be 10 – 15 minute delays while the concrete trucks place their loads.  Please consider using alternate routes and/or allow additional time for accessing properties in the area.  Once the new roadway section has been placed, westbound Bachman will be reopened to traffic, however the intersections of Massol/Bachman and Glen Ridge/Bachman Avenues will remain closed over the weekend and until the concrete roadway has cured sufficiently to be opened back up to traffic.

Sawcutting of the newly placed roadway section is anticipated to take place in the late evening hours of Wednesday night and into the early morning hours on Thursday, depending on the cure time of the concrete.  Again we apologize in advance for the disruption that will be created by the noise and lights of this operation.

Update posted 12/1/16 –
Bachman Avenue
The new concrete roadway on the south side of Bachman Avenue between N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Tait Avenue was poured today, including the southwest quadrant of the Tait/Bachman intersection.  Please be advised that only northbound traffic on Tait across Bachman will be allowed.  Traffic wishing to travel southbound across Bachman Avenue will be detoured to cross at Massol Avenue.

Working hours have been extended beyond 5:00 pm tonight in order to allow the contractor to finish the roadway as the colder temperatures have slowed the curing time for the concrete.  As with previous sections, it is anticipated that the required sawcutting of the new pavement will need to occur during the late evening hours tonight and into the very early morning hours on Friday.  We apologize in advance for the disruption and inconvenience that the noise and lights from this operation will cause, however please remember the saw cuts are of major importance to the performance of the concrete roadway and must be completed at very specific times which are determined by factors beyond our control.

The newly placed roadway sections will remain closed during this weekend’s Holiday parade and this closure has been coordinated with the parade organizers.   Although it may be extremely tempting to walk or drive on the new roadway pavement, please stay off of the new pavement until the project team has determined the pavement is able to accommodate traffic and has removed the barricades and caution tape. For pedestrian access, please use the sidewalks to navigate around the construction area.

Residents and businesses along this newly poured section of roadway will continue to be without driveway access until the roadway has cured sufficiently to accommodate vehicular traffic.  If you live on other sections of Bachman Avenue and have the ability to park in your driveway, we encourage you to do so and make the limited street parking available to those residents who are without driveway access. All efforts will be made to re-open driveway access as quickly as possible, and will depend on the cure time of the concrete as placed.

The following intersections are to remain CLOSED, please obey all road closure and detour signs:

  • Wilder Avenue @Bachman Avenue
  • Victory Lane @ Bachman Avenue
  • Alleyway between Wilder and Tait @ Bachman Avenue
  • Tait Avenue @ Bachman Avenue (limited access – please use Massol Avenue)

Residents on Bachman Avenue will continue to receive garbage and recycling collection services on Thursdays (including Thanksgiving Day).  Please continue to place containers at the curb, or in the driveway approach if the roadway is under construction.  The contractor may move the containers to an alternate location to be emptied, but will return them to their original location following the collection service.

Update posted 11/17/16 –
Bachman Avenue-
Construction crews are working to switch traffic onto the new concrete roadway between N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Tait Avenue.  The one lane of westbound traffic in this segment will soon be traveling on the north half of Bachman Avenue.  In this area, on street parking will also be shifted to the northern half of the street only.  The southern half of Bachman Avenue between N. Santa Cruz and Tait Avenue will be closed to prepare for the upcoming roadway removal and replacement.  Access to and from properties on the south side of Bachman Avenue will be maintained until the roadway removal begins.

Due to rain in the forecast, the actual start of the roadway removal and replacement on the south side of Bachman Avenue is on hold until after the Thanksgiving holiday.  Should the weather forecast change, the construction schedule will be modified accordingly.

Please be aware of the change in traffic patterns on Bachman Avenue and obey all traffic control signs.

The section of roadway recently placed between Tait Avenue and Glen Ridge Avenue is still in the curing process and is not ready to accept vehicular traffic.  Although it may be extremely tempting to drive on this new roadway pavement, please stay off of the new pavement until the project team has determined the pavement is able to accommodate vehicular traffic and has removed the barricades and caution tape. For pedestrian access, please use the sidewalks to navigate around and through the construction area.
