Tips for Parents
The Parent Project is a 12-week course for parents with out of control or strong willed adolescents. Officers Sam Wonnell and Michelle Gonzalez of the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department, along with LaDonna Silva, Marriage and Family Intern, team up to provide skills and resources for parents who are commited to improving their relationship with their children. Classes start March 4th and are held in the evenings from 6-9 pm at Calvary Church. Registration is through the Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation Department.  

Tips for Parents: Underage Drinking in California, provides information and strategies for parents regarding youth drinking; including warning signs, how youth get alcohol and what you can do to prevent your child from drinking.

SHIFT Coalition - Safety and Health Is FirsT - a collaboration between Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Saratoga: The SHIFT coalition envisions schools, families and our communities committed to the health and safety of our youth by making significant change in underage drinking attitudes and behaviors. The Drug Free Community Committee, which is hosted by the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department, meets monthly in the Los Gatos Town Council Chambers to discuss juvenile issues as they relate to drugs, alcohol, and other high-risk behaviors. The committee consists of a cross-section of community and government members who deal with juveniles, or who are interested in addressing their issues. Members include the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department, representatives from the Schools, Churches, Community Against Substance Abuse (CASA), Teen and Family Counseling Center, as well as participation from local service clubs.

Abbott Laboratories has designed a public awareness campaign about the prevalence of prescription drug abuse by teens. This campaign, entitled “not in my house," is designed to help raise parents’ awareness about this emerging issue.
